South Downs – Chantonbury Hill

Walking today was a pleasure as the sun was back with us

Scan the green horizon and atop of the hill is a blip of trees – enter stage centre – the trees of Chantonbury Hill.

During the hurricane of 1987 this skyline was decimated. Until then the canopy of the trees had a stunning curvature. I would always look for this whenever I pass on the north side of the South Downs locally. Seeing it was a reminder I was home. The shape I remember may never return, but the significance remains.
